Week 24: The Power of Patience

What Is Happening Beneath the Surface?

This week, my garden gave me another lesson. I have been enjoying gardening more than I have in years. Like life itself, some days I am full of energy and enthusiasm, and other days I fizzle out. My knees remind me that I am not twenty anymore. The Georgia heat arrives with determination. Some days the work seems effortless, and other days it feels like a challenge.

Yet I keep planting. I keep watering. I keep showing up.

This week, I stepped outside after several days of rain and sunshine and found myself surrounded by blooms. Flowers that seemed dormant only days before were suddenly bursting with color. Reds, yellows, purples, and pinks appeared as if by magic.

I stood in the front yard and simply smiled.

Then it hit me. This garden was giving me a message.

Patience pays off.

The Complicated Nature of Waiting

Waiting is one of life's greatest challenges. We plant the seeds and want immediate results. We begin a project and want immediate success. We make positive changes and expect instant transformation. But nature teaches a different lesson.

Growth has its own timetable. The seed does not emerge the moment it is planted. The roots develop first. Strength develops first. The foundation develops first. Only then does the bloom appear. The waiting can feel complicated because so much of the work is invisible. Yet invisible does not mean inactive.

The Work Beneath the Surface

As I looked at my flowers this week, I realized that long before I saw the blooms, there was work happening underground. Roots were stretching. Nutrients were being absorbed.

Life was forming. The process was vibrant and active, even though I could not see it. Perhaps life works the same way. There are seasons when we feel as though nothing is happening. Our goals seem stalled. Our dreams seem delayed.

Our efforts appear unnoticed. Yet beneath the surface, something is taking place.

Growth. Preparation. Alignment. The quiet work of God.

Just because we cannot see the progress does not mean the progress is not occurring.

Victory Begins Before the Bloom

The flowers reminded me that victory does not begin when the blossom appears. Victory begins when the seed is planted. Victory begins when we choose to believe. Victory begins when we continue to nourish the vision, even when there is no visible evidence that it is working. Every bucket of water matters. Every act of faith matters. Every moment of perseverance matters. The bloom is simply the visible evidence of an invisible process that has been taking place all along. The lesson for me this week was simple and profound:

Patience produces product. Not passive waiting. Not wishful thinking. Active patience.

The kind that continues watering. The kind that continues believing. The kind that continues showing up. Patience is not the absence of action. Patience is faithful action repeated over time. And eventually, the flowers bloom.

This Week, I affirm: “I trust the process. I nourish my dreams with patience, faith, and consistent action. What is growing beneath the surface will bloom at the perfect time.”

There is work happening underground. There is growth occurring beyond what I can see.

There is beauty preparing to emerge. And because I planted the seeds, I can trust the harvest.
