“Yikes!” — Gathering Your Power in Turbulent Times
Yikes! That is truly the only word that captures the spirit of this week. So many things happening at once—globally, personally, spiritually—it feels like the emotional winds have been strong enough to shake even the most grounded roots.
This week reminded me that now, more than ever, it is essential to gather every ounce of emotional intelligence, lean into daily affirmations, and anchor ourselves in gratitude. The world may be unpredictable, but how we show up—calm, aware, and steady—remains within our control.
Guidance from the Masters
Wayne Dyer, in his timeless wisdom, said:
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”(Dyer, 2001, p. 32)
These words are a gentle reminder that perception is our most powerful ally. The chaos of the world does not determine our peace—our mindset does. When we pause, breathe, and view the world through the lens of faith and compassion, we transform even the most difficult moments into opportunities for growth.
Likewise, Florence Scovel Shinn in The Game of Life and How to Play It reminds us:
“No man is your enemy, no man is your friend, every man is your teacher.”(Shinn, 1925/2013, p. 45)
Her words invite us to view life as a classroom of the soul—each challenge, frustration, or unexpected twist offering a lesson in grace, courage, or patience. When we hold onto our power and choose learning over fear, we not only survive change—we transcend it.
Reflections for the Week
This week, I practiced turning “Yikes!” moments into “Yes” moments by pausing, breathing, and asking:
What is this moment trying to teach me?
Sometimes, it is teaching surrender. Sometimes, gratitude. Sometimes, the simple act of faith.
And remember—if things feel overwhelming, reach out. Talk to someone. Connection is medicine, and vulnerability is a form of strength.
Affirmation for the Week
“I hold on to my inner power with grace and gratitude. No storm can shake what is rooted in peace.”
