I’ve always believed that great books are mirrors reflecting our own lives back at us. Some stories make us feel seen and understood, while others remind us how fortunate we are to have chosen a different path. As I sit here working on a grant for a client, I can’t help but wonder what kind of book my own life would make. Have I helped anyone become a better person? Have I inspired someone to change their course?
I’ve lived a full life, filled with experiences both sweet and sour, like a perfectly ripe mango. And now, in this stage of retirement, I feel a deep desire to share those experiences. Perhaps my stories can offer comfort, spark a realization, or simply remind someone that they possess an innate resilience within them.
This blog is a space for me to do just that. I’ll be sharing my journey as a person born in the West Indies, growing up and eventually retiring in the USA. Expect tales of island life, reflections on navigating the American healthcare system (Medicare musings, anyone?), and musings on everything in between.
Whether you’re a fellow retiree, a curious soul, or simply someone looking for a taste of the Caribbean-American experience, I invite you to join me. Let’s share stories, laughter, and perhaps even a few tears.
